Normally they have a care identification label stating what material the furniture has been covered with and how it should be cleaned, but some don’t or have been lost over time, in this case, we would do a burn test by snipping a small piece of material from an inconspicuous part of the furniture like underneath or inside a cushion and do a burn test to identify the type of fabric makeup to see if it’s a natural or synthetic material/s.

The most common cleaning method we carry out when upholstery cleaning in Essex is hot water extraction as a large percentage of soft furnishings are acceptable to steam cleaning. Other more delicate fabrics have to be cleaned using low moisture, very low moisture methods and some dry cleaning only.

Once this has been carried out we will extract the chemical used with a residue rinse solution to stabilise the natural PH.

The upholstery is then towelled off to take off any excess moisture and the pile is re-set.

We then use specialised equipment to speed up the drying process. Drying is essential to prevent mould growth and ensure your furniture is ready to use as soon as possible.
